Resolution Offering Assistance to the United States Environmental Protection Agency in the Preparation of the 2002 Ground Water Report to Congress
WHEREAS, the Ground Water Protection Council (GWPC) has significant interest and expertise in ground water issues and regulatory programs; and
WHEREAS, the United States Environmental Protection Agency is required every three years under Section 1429 of the Safe Drinking Water Act to report on the status of ground water quality in the United States and the effectiveness of state programs for protecting ground water and to evaluate funded state ground water protection programs; and
WHEREAS, the 1999 Ground Water Report to Congress found that insufficient resources are severely limiting the states’ ability to conduct critical ground water activities to characterize ground water resources, protect ground water, and educate the public on ground water issues; and
WHEREAS, the Ground Water Protection Council conducted a survey of the states to determine the activities and costs associated with an effective ground water programs for the 1999 Ground Water Report to Congress.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ground Water Protection Council requests that the United States Environmental Protection Agency partner with the GWPC in the preparation and final review of the 2002 Ground Water Report to Congress.
