RESOLUTION

EPA National Watershed Assessment Program

WHEREAS, the Ground Water Protection Council (GWPC) has significant interest and expertise in ground water issues and in public education on ground water programs and issues; and

WHEREAS, the GWPC is in general agreement with the intention and underlying principle of a national watershed assessment program; (NWAP) and

WHEREAS, the GWPC believes that the data as presented in the current “Surf Your Watershed Project” program is too generalized, is misleading, of little use, and in conflict with states’ information.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Board of Directors of the GWPC opposes the NWAP effort in its current format and offers to work with, and assist the USEPA, in the redesign of the program and the review of ground water data; to develop an appropriate representation of ground water and surface water to be included in the NWAP effort.
